"We exist to serve seniors and their families with the intention of building relationships filled with affection, dignity, and hope."
Support our vision to challenge industry norms by reimagining spaces that foster genuine connections, where we can share our experiences, build new friendships, and discover a renewed sense of purpose.
Your signature supports our vision of reimagined senior care, where meaningful relationships flourish and every resident's dignity is honored.
In 1973, Doreen Dubose, founded The Carnelian with a heartfelt vision: to create a place where seniors can age-in-place in a homelike, non-institutional, and gracious living environment. Five decades later, The Carnelian remains to be a unique age-in-place community, staying true to its core promise: to honor, serve, and support seniors and their families through life’s most challenging moments. Our mission remains to provide a nurturing environment where our seniors can live out the remainder of their lives filled with joy, dignity, and love. As we continue to honor Doreen’s legacy, we remain dedicated to meeting the ever-growing needs of our community. We are excited to share with you the next chapter of our story - the expansion of Carnelian Assisted Living.
This expansion presents an opportunity for us to grow as a unique model for senior care, providing more families access to our specialized care services, as it reflects our enduring commitment to making a lasting and profound difference in the lives of the families and the community we serve.

Carnelian Project
Site Location: 2374 Warren Road, Walnut Creek, CA
The Carnelian Project is our planned addition at our 2374 Warren Road property. We're building a new two-story structure that will allow us to welcome 12 additional residents, increasing this property's capacity from 6 to 18 beds.
Right now, our community serves 30 residents across three neighboring properties (2380 and 2374 Warren Road, 170 Flora Avenue), all connected by our shared garden spaces. Once our addition is complete, we'll be able to provide a home for 42 seniors altogether.
The new building will stand 25 feet tall with a footprint of 2,590 square feet, thoughtfully designed to complement our existing community.
As we grow, we will continue operating as a California Licensed Residential Care Community for the elderly, maintaining our commitment to providing warm, personalized care that helps our residents thrive.
Contractor and Architect
We’re proud to be working with HGCI, Inc. from San Rafael, California, who will serve as both the contractor and architect for this project.
Benefits for Our Saranap and Neighboring Community:
Our Continued Community Partnership: For over fifty years, we've proudly called this neighborhood home, fostering positive relationships with our neighbors. We remain committed to supporting our community, ensuring our operations respect and enhance the harmonious character of Saranap.
A New Vision for Senior Living: Our expansion will showcase what thoughtful senior care can look like—creating spaces where our residents and community members connect meaningfully, share their experiences, build new friendships, and discover renewed purpose together.
Meeting Our Local Care Needs: Our project helps address the critical shortage of high-level care options in our area, allowing local families to find exceptional care for their loved ones without leaving the neighborhood they cherish.
A Resource for All: We'll continue serving as a community hub, offering programs and services that benefit not just our residents but their families and our neighbors—from educational workshops to community events that strengthen our local connections.
Community Investment: Our expansion will create new local jobs with competitive wages and benefits, while also increasing our property tax contribution. This represents a meaningful investment in our community's economic health while maintaining the residential character of our neighborhood.
